I do not really see a point to having 2 weapon slots if we cannot use it for auras...
What do you guys use the other slot for now?
Leaves are falling all around, It's time I was on my way.
Thanks to you, I'm much obliged for such a pleasant stay.
But now it's time for me to go.
The autumn moon lights my way.
For now I smell the rain, and with it pain, and it's headed my way.

While I only used it for auras myself, I'm pretty sure the intended reason was to have like a 1h/shield combo for tough battles, or a skill switch, like keeping a dmg heavy strike on main wpns then an MF heavy strike on 2nd set for last hit. Also very early game my roommate playing maura will keep a bow in his 2nd set for facing Brutus.
There's other options but many people won't bother. Min/maxers will take advantage of them but I don't see casual players really caring.
Finished 17th in Rampage - Peaked at 11th
Finished 18th in Torment/Bloodline 1mo Race - peaked at 9th

I like where this thread is going.
I'm reserving my switched weapon slot for a unique with increased movement speed, for traveling, but there's nothing really special about having a switched skillset now, other than it messes with your main skill bindings if you aren't careful.

I don't even use it.
The way the game is made makes you a 1 weapon type only and if you splice into 2 then you weaken yourself at later stages.
Unless you have a bow on second hand for dealing with nasty assholes like sten or Brutus.

I use it for a ranged weapon if things get a bit tricky. All my auras and main skills stacked on my clothing and weapon skills in weapons for both sets.
So on my bow i have things like poison arrow or burning arrow.
And on my main lightning strike or whatever i have to use. Also skele and zombie available to both weapons so works out ok.
It does take a bit of planning and granted cannot get masive dps but i get enough to play the game and im doing ok.
I dare say there will be more changes and people will get upset as it takes them out of their comfort zones.
Keep it up GGG
Loving it.
Its only money. May as well spend it here.
Buy beta.
Please Do Not PM me if you have no sense of humour as to what i say on forums.

it was implemented because there were many people requesting it to play the duellist/ranger as a the sword/bow hybrid they are described in the char-selection-screen (funny that now many people who are ranting about the aura-swap-remove are duellists who only used it for auras...;).
i still want to try an axe-marauder using the swap (1h+shield - 2h) for different combat-situations. if u dont invest in 1h/2h passives but axe-passives only there is no real problem, i think.
and... i really think there are people for whom an aRPG is not only about optimizing their build for the highest possible damage-output, but to play a sort of character they have in mind. and im convinced that it is possible to build a viable (but not 'OP', what everyone seems to want to be) character that uses - e.g. - both close-combat and ranged weapons. some people really just have fun playing the game and/or messing arround...
it certainly adds more possibilities. i see nothing wrong about that. and, get that in your head: the second weapon slot was _never_ intended to be used for auras...

I agree with the above and i would like to add: leveling of a gem which you are not currently using. E.g. some support gem you can't yet connect to your main skill and you wait for the right equipment, or if you find quality version of your main skill, which you would like to get to a better lvl, before you start using it...

The second weapon slot will also be essential for many builds in PvP. For example, switching between twohander and onehander plus shield in the right moment can have its benefits.

I am keeping a defensive weapon and an offensive weapon.
Maelstrom staff is 18% block, 6.5% crit and lower base DPS.
Enzomyte staff is 12% block, 6.68% crit and higher base DPS.
My main attack (LS for templar) is usually a multi-target attack, so I'll be keeping prolif linked on the enzomyte for killing large packs quickly. When a tough single target comes out I'll benefit much more from a direct DPS booster, say, MPD. That'll go on the maelstrom.

Let him bear few wishes,
